More Than One Dream: How Lanyia Built Communities, Cared for Families, and Refused to Be Limited

When people hear the name Lanyia, they think of vision, compassion, and determination. As a pediatrician, ultrasound technician, real estate professional, and community developer, she became known for proving that people don't have to choose between their passions to make a difference. But her journey began with loss.

At just twelve years old, Lanyia lost both her grandmother and her brother in the same year. Their passing forced her to realize how quickly life can change and motivated her to take her future more seriously.
"I realized unexpected things can happen," she says. "It made me stop procrastinating and work harder for the future I wanted."

Her mother became one of her greatest influences, teaching her that hard work and perseverance could overcome almost any obstacle. Watching her mother successfully juggle many responsibilities also helped Lanyia realize that she didn't have to limit herself to one path.
"I've never been a follower," she says. "If I love something, I'm going to work for it."

As she grew older, Lanyia discovered that her dreams were connected. Caring for children as a pediatrician and ultrasound technician allowed her to support families during life's most important moments. At the same time, her passion for construction and real estate gave her another way to improve people's lives.
Rather than choosing one career, she chose purpose.

Through healthcare, she became known for making children and families feel comfortable, cared for, and supported. Through real estate and neighborhood revitalization, she helped restore vacant homes, improve communities, and create places where families felt proud to live.

One of the projects she is most proud of helped transform neighborhoods across Cleveland by renovating abandoned houses and encouraging residents to care for their communities.
"It's not about where you're at," Lanyia says. "It's how you take care of it."
That philosophy guided every part of her life.

She also became a mentor to young people, especially young women, encouraging them not to limit themselves.
"You don't have to choose just one dream," she tells them. "It's okay to change your mind, have multiple careers, and build a life you actually love. You want a career, not just a job."

Outside of work, Lanyia built the life she once imagined with her family while continuing to invest in the communities that shaped her. Whether caring for patients, supporting mothers, helping families find safe homes, or rebuilding neighborhoods, she believed every person deserved to feel valued.

Looking back, Lanyia hopes people remember the positive impact she made on others. She wants families to remember the comfort she provided during important moments in healthcare. She wants children to remember that they were cared for like family. She wants neighborhoods to remember that someone believed they were worth investing in.

For Lanyia, success was never about having multiple careers. It was about using every one of them to build healthier families, stronger communities, and brighter futures.
