Di’Aera Transforms Pediatric Care with Compassion and Advocacy

CLEVELAND, OH — Di’Aera always knew she wanted to help people. Throughout high school, she dreamed of working in the medical field, even though she wasn’t sure what role she would play. One thing was clear — she wanted to make hospital care better for those who needed it most.

Today, at age 40, Di’Aera is one of the country’s leading pediatric care advocates and trainers. Her work has helped change the way hospitals treat young patients, especially those who are often overlooked. “I want every child to feel safe, respected, and heard when they’re in the hospital,” she said.

Di’Aera’s path became clear when her grandfather passed away. At just 15 years old, she noticed how poorly some patients were treated in hospitals — and how different things might have been with better care. “It felt like more could have been done,” she said. “That’s when I knew I wanted to speak up for people who couldn’t always speak for themselves.”

She began researching pediatric advocacy and eventually joined college programs focused on improving hospital care for children. She also worked with families who had experienced similar situations, helping them navigate care systems and find their voices.

Her passion only grew stronger during her time in the Cleveland Freedom Project, where she participated in hands-on learning and developed leadership skills. “That program helped me understand how my voice could make a real difference,” Di’Aera shared.

Now, Di’Aera trains future hospital workers, speaks at medical conferences, and works with hospitals around the country to create systems that treat every patient with dignity. Her message is clear: “Every child deserves care that is kind, fair, and human.”
