From the Field to the Future: The Joshua Story

CLEVELAND, OH — Before Joshua became a nationally recognized athlete and trailblazing uniform designer, he was just a determined teenager in Cleveland juggling school, work, football, and his sketchpad.

His love for football came early—passed down by his mother, who grew up playing the game herself. She taught him how to play before her life was tragically cut short by gun violence when Joshua was only 11. He witnessed it firsthand. The grief nearly consumed him, but therapy and football gave him something to hold on to. So did design. He needed something to make sense of the pain—and to make his mother proud.

His talent for design emerged when his aunt asked him to create T-shirts for the family. From there, his vision grew. Joshua didn’t just want to play in the NFL—he wanted to transform it. He imagined uniforms embedded with smart technology that could track hydration, heart rate, muscle fatigue, and detect concussions in real time.
But to Joshua, the look mattered just as much as the tech. He made sure the designs were never compromised—sleek, bold, and performance-ready. “You shouldn’t have to choose between safety and style,” he once said. “I made sure you didn’t.”
Back in high school, Joshua lived by a rhythm: “Go to school. Go to work. Go to practice. Then design your dream.”It wasn’t just a schedule—it was a way of life. His days were long, but his purpose was clear.

During his time at the Cleveland Freedom Project, Joshua discovered how to merge his passions —sports, design, and technology—into something powerful. The program helped him see his story not just as one of struggle, but of vision, leadership, and possibility.

He also dreamed of creating youth programs where kids could explore their own passions just like he had—programs that integrated athletics, creativity, and tech-driven innovation.

By the time he reached national acclaim, Joshua had never forgotten what fueled him: the memory of his mother, the encouragement of his family, and the belief that your beginnings don’t define your ending.
Joshua didn’t just change the game. He designed a future—one where performance, protection, and pride came together on and off the field.
